Recommendations
"I worked with Howard on the bankruptcy case involving the Queen Mary in Long Beach. I was counsel for the Creditors' Committee and Howard was the chapter 11 trustee. He worked very hard to operate the debtor's business and sell the ground lease which resulted in a substantial distribution to creditors."
- Ira Katz, Gershuni & Katz, A Law Corporation
"I have personally known Howard for over 10 years and we have worked together on multiple occasions.
Howard is a well recognized and respected bankruptcy/trustee attorney both in the Los Angeles area and nationally.
I fully endorse Howard's expertise and professionalism."
-Victor Owens, Senior Vice President/East West Bank
"Howard was my supervising attorney when I worked at Sulmeyer. He has a great work ethic and handles his cases with great competency and dignity. He is the consummate fiduciary and a pleasure to work with.
Upon becoming a trustee myself, Howard has been available to act as a mentor, answering questions no matter how trivial. I look forward to hiring Howard as my attorney as my attorney and to working on his behalf as well."
-Larry Simons, Principal at Law Offices of Larry D. Simons, Inc.

"Disposing real estate as part of a bankruptcy liquidation deals with a lot of dynamic issues. Howard helped us anticipate many hurdles and we worked together as a team to maximize the asset's value. Bidders were forced to focus on the real estate value and not take advantage of the bankruptcy process."
-Carl Muhlstein, Managing Director at Jones Lang LaSalle
"Howard is a well organized, competent, and ethical lawyer. It is a pleasure working with Howard because he is fair, practical and 'gets it.'"
-Garrick Hollander, Shareholder at Winthrop Couchot PC
"I worked with Howard for over a decade and know him well. He is highly ethical and efficient -always looking to keep the bill down. But at the same time he is thorough and detailed-oriented. Howard can run a mega-case as well as a tiny case. He thinks outside the box and looks for creative cost-effective solutions. Howard is also thoroughly versed in all aspects of Chapter 11 and 7 bankruptcy, as I know from working with him on behalf of debtors, creditors, committees, adversary defendants, and trustee cases."
-Howard Madris, Owner, Law Office of Howard N. Madris, A P.C.
"I have worked with Howard on cases going back to the Queen Mary bankruptcy case where Howard was the Chapter 11 Trustee. He is sharp, focused on the right result and is one of the best bankruptcy attorneys in California. Having worked with him while representing a creditor in a case where he was a trustee, having worked with Howard as co-counsel and having represented Howard in other matters, Howard is a person that you want involved as a trustee or an attorney in a bankruptcy case."
-Corey Weber, Partner at Ezra Brutzkus Gubner LLP
"Howard is one of the most respected and experienced bankruptcy attorneys and trustees in the Central District of California. Especially today, there are many lawyers that claim to be bankruptcy lawyers, but compared to Howard, they are merely practicing.
Howard exemplifies the dignity, civility and professionalism that is not found among all of our colleagues. It is always a pleasure to work with, even when on the other side of, Howard. Other trustees should learn from Howard "there is more to get with honey then vinegar!"
-Louis J. Esbin

- Leon Bayer
Personal
When he joined SulmeyerKupetz in 1986, all Howard knew about bankruptcy was that he owned stock in the now-defunct Sambo's Restaurants. Today he is co-managing partner of the firm, a certified business bankruptcy law specialist, and frequent speaker and author. In 1995, Howard became a member of the Central District of California bankruptcy trustees. Since then he has successfully handled several complicated cases including the Queen Mary, Powerlift (the largest Caterpillar forklift franchisee in California), the case of the individual who owns the most expensive house in America, and he was appointed to oversee the liquidation of Axium International and 36 related companies (a 2 billion dollar entertainment payroll company). Most of all, Howard enjoys spending time with his wife and two kids; Benny is a sophomore at USC studying economics, and Mia is entering her junior year of high school and hoping to be a diplomat some day.
