Ventura Port District was the first governmental entity in the Central District of California ever to file a petition for relief under Chapter 9 (municipal debt adjustment) of the Bankruptcy Code. SulmeyerKupetz represented the Port District in all aspects of its Chapter 9 case and in extensive litigation in the U.S. District Court and Bankruptcy Court, and helped the Port District to obtain confirmation of a Chapter 9 plan of debt adjustment, over the objection of the primary creditor.
